  1.   ben a Says:

1 he could collect the gas in a gas syringe

2 it would decrease the time taken and increaase the rate of reaction becaues there is a bigger serface area for the acid to react with

3 it would increaase the rate of reaction becaues there is more acid to collide with the marble chips

4 it would decreae time taken and and increase reaction time because there is more energy than the activation energy so the acid would collide quicker

  2.   Gemma B Says:

    1) The sulphur dioxide gas that is produced in the experiment can be collected in a Gas Syringe

    2) The crushed marble chips would give a larger surface area because more particles are produced, so there would be more collisions. This would make the rate of the reaction faster - making the time taken shorter.

    3) If the acid solution was concentrated, the rate of the reaction would increase - making the time taken shorter. This is because there are more acid particles in the solution, making more collisions.

    4) If the temperature is higher, then the rate of the reaction would increase - the time taken for the sulphur dioxide to be produced would be quicker. This is because the higher the temperature, the more energy the particles have. If the particles have more energy, then the collision would be more effective.

  3.   Isobel C Says:

    1. A chemist might collect the gas formed by using a gas syringe. Gas syringes are usually quite accurate because they give volumes to the nearest millilitre. Another way to collect the gas being given off in a reaction could be to use an inverted measuring cylinder in a container filled with water. You then conncect a tube from the conical flask to the measuring cylinder, which will then collect any gas formed.

    2. If you used crushed chips rather than chips, the time of the reaction will increase. the rate of the reaction will also increase, because there is a larger surface area of the crushed up chips. this means that collision theory will happen faster because there will be more collisions, and when things collide they react, this means that there will also be more reactions, so speeding up the rate of the reaction.

    3. If you use an acid of a higher conentration the time taken for the reaction to happen will increase. This is because there will be more recatant particles around, making collisions between particles more likely. This means that the rate of reaction will be quicker.

    4. If you do the reaction at a higher temperature, the time taken will increase and so will the rate of reaction. This is because the when the temperature is increased the particles move quicker. If they move quicker they are going to have more effective collisions, which results in more reactions, making the overall reaction faster, as there is more energy.

  4.   Liam Clarke Says:

    1. You would collect it in a Gas Syringe.
    2. It will take less time for the reaction to take place because of an increase in the rate of the reaction. Crushed marble has a larger surface area than marble chips so there is a greater chance that the particles are going to collide succesfully.
    3. It will take less time for the reaction to take place because an increase in the rate of the reaction. There are more acid particles in the same space so there is a greater chance that the different particles will collide succesfully.
    4. The time for the reaction to take place will decrease because the rate of reaction will increase. A higher temperature will mean that more of the particles will have at least the activation energy.

  5.   sian Says:

  6.   Luke H Says:

1.) He can collect the gas formed by using a gas syringe. If one of the products is a gas and measure how much is formed at a regular time interval. A greater volume of gas every second means a highere rate.
2.) To increase the surface area of a solid you crush the solid into a powder. The affect of increasing the surface area on the reaction, it will increase the rate of the reaction. There are more particles exposed, and so more collisions between particles, leading to a higher rate if the reaction.
3.) When the concentration was increased the rate of the reaction increased because the more particles there are, the more collisions will happen as the concentration increases.
4.) The higher the temperature the quicker the rate of the reaction because there will be more energy and more particles will go faster resulting more collisions.

  7.   Jamie B Says:

    1) The scientist could use a gas syringe.
2a) The time taken will decrease.
    b) The rate of reaction will increase.
    c) Using crushed marble increases the surface area of the marble. So increasing the surface area speeds up the rate of reaction. So more particles are exposed and more collisions between particles take place. This decreases the time taken because of this.
3a) The time taken will decrease.
    b) The rate of reaction will increase.
    c) This happens because in a higher concentration there are more particles than in a smaller concentration. This means in the higher concentration there will be more collisions between particles.
4a) The time taken will decrease.
    b) The rate of reaction will increase.
    c) At a higher temperature the particles receive more energy. This means the particles move quicker and more randomly. This means the particles are more likely to collide with each other.

4b)the rate of reaction will increase
4c)The particles will have more energy so there will be more collisions.

  9.   Sophie H Says:

1-He might collect the gas formed by weighing the substance before, during and at the end of the experiment.

2-crushed marble will have a larger surface area by doing this the rate of reaction increases as there are more partials exposed. There will be more collisions as there are more particles to collide. And so the time taken will decrease.

3- More concentrated acid solution will increase the rate of reaction as there is a greater chance of the partials colliding. And so the reaction will go faster. The time taken will decrease.

4- At a higher temperature more particles collide and there are more effective collisions. The particles have at least the activation energy. So the rate of reaction increases. The time taken will decrease.

  10.   George Says:

    1) To collect the gas formed, the chemist might use a gas syringe.
    2) With crushed marble the reaction time taken would increase because there is a bigger surface area so there would be more effective collitions between the particles. The rate would also increase.
    3) As the concentration of acid solution increases the time taken for the reaction to happen increases, also the rate increases because there are more particles so they collide more often.
    4) If the temperature is increased the rate is increases because the particles are moving around faster so more particles will collide more often.

  11.   Ben W Says:

    1) the chemist will collect the gas formed in a gas syringe
    2) if you use crushed marble instead of chips the reaction will take take less time because there are more exposed particles to react with eachother, therefore the rate will increase.
    3) if the chemist uses a more concentrated acid dolution the rate of the reaction will also go up, because there are more acid perticles to react with the chips.
    4) at a higher temperature the particles will move at a greater speed so there will be more chance of the m reacting so th rate of the reaction increases.

  12.   phil m Says:

    1) How might he collect the gas formed?
    - by connecting a gas syringe to the flask with a tube. the gas syringe will hold the gas and tell you how mach there is

    2) With crushed marble instead of chips
    - when the chips are chrushed they have a larger surface area, this means there are more particles exposedand will result in more collitions between the types of particles. this will increase the rate of reaction and therefore decrease time taken for the reaction to happen.

    3) With a more concentrated acid solution
    - if the solution is more concentrated, there are more particles per cm squared, this mans more partles can collide with the chips, increasing the rate of reaction and decreasing the time taken.

    4) At a higher temperature
    - at a higher temprature, the particles have more energy so they move around faster which increases the chance of collision. this also means there is more chance of the 2 particles having at least the activation energy needed for the reaction. this means the rate of reaction will increase and the time taken will decrease.
