Uniform crackdown

It’s that time of year tutees that we make a good check on your uniform.  Please remember that, in particular, school shoes should be black and smart.  No trainers should be worn in class.  Coats need to be dark in colour with no big logos please.

You can check out the full uniform policy near the front of your School Diary.

Mock SAT exams are here, but keep calm

Yes the days of reckoning are almost upon us Year 9 students.  On Tuesday 4th March and Wednesday 5th March you will be completing your mock SATs.  A little revision over the weekend - perhaps some of the activities on SAMLearning for example - would be a good idea to refresh yourself.

Good luck with the tests and remember we will use how you get on to put together a learning plan to prepare for the real thing.  Keep up the great work :-)

Vital Organs done; Earth and Space next up

Well done 8-2 on your work on the Vital Organs topic.  We will assess your tests on Monday.  Next up is the Earth and Space topic.  To get a head-start, you could have a search for the different planets on Yahooligans :-).

How about this video from YouTube to get you started?

- a nice review of the planets in the Solar System.

Forces test; Burning and Reactions

Next up for Year 7 we have the Forces test on Mon 3rd March - make sure you revise - you could try BBC Bitesize for example :-).  After the test has been assessed we will move on to the Burning and Reactions topic.  You can find lots of related videos on BBC Learning Zone Clips - look in the Chemistry section.  Enjoy.

ISA week

Just a heads-up here for my current Year 11 group.  We are doing an ISA next week (3rd - 7th March) about Rates of Chemical Reactions.

This is based around the C2 4 topic that most of you have started.  You may wish to read up on both How Science Works in your revision guide, and Rates of Reaction on www.SAMLearning.com.

A happy and funny video

Just spotted this on YouTube.  Made me smile and is a good point for reflection.

The Grand Opening of Mr Chittenden’s Science Lab

Hello and welcome to Mr Chittenden’s Science Lab.

This is a pilot project in the use of a blog for my teaching at St. Edmund’s Catholic School, Dover, UK.  I will endeavour to make regular postings about everything that is happening, including relevant sites, video and audio clips, homework details and (most importantly) a chance for comments/discussions from students.

Since you are here, why not also visit the home of the Science Vertical Tutor group, F1, at www.ScienceVT.co.uk?

Please don’t hesitate to post if you wish to say anything, that is why the blog is here :-).
